Refining the Phase 2 Dex Hand
The Phase 2 Dex Hand keeps getting simpler and less expensive to build. Every revision in this phase has the same aim: a lower bill of materials and fewer parts, so each hand costs less to build with the same capability.
Designed with the people who build it
We are working directly with suppliers, machine shops and manufacturers to dial in design choices. Their input on materials, tolerances and process shapes each part before it is made, so the design that reaches production is one that can be built repeatably and at cost.
Where the hardware stands
- Actuator stack: finalized.
- Electronics: custom circuit board in design, communicating over CAN, a rugged data standard widely used in industrial machines and vehicles.
- Power: 24 V power architecture decided, the standard voltage in factory automation.
- Mounting: ISO-standard bolt patterns will be available, so the hand mounts directly to standard robot arms.
Each of these choices matches what industrial robot cells already run on, so the hand fits into existing equipment instead of asking the cell to change around it.
Two products, one roadmap
The policy-training pipeline and the hand move forward together. Software revenue and funding will help fund the development of the hand as we continue to refine both products.
